This Tuesday, February 5, the students of Gresol International-American School have participated in a series of activities celebrating the Chinese New Year.
Did you know that we started the ‘Year of the Pig’? Chinese calendar dates from s. XIV and was created by the Chinese Emperor Huang Di, ‘The Yellow Emperor.’ The calendar has a lunar origin and five cycles of twelve years of duration are established.
As you know, each cycle is ruled by an animal: rat, bull, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, cock, dog and pig.
At GIAS we have taken advantage of our internationality as a base of our educational project to go deeper into the culture and traditions of this country of almost 1400 million inhabitants!
At Early Years we have done a ‘Piggy Craft’ and ‘Chinese Lanterns … at Elementary we learned how to write Chinese characters, using the brush, ink and rice paper … as well as searching for the thousand and one combinations with TANGRAM! The Secondary ones are preparing various activities and presentations to work on them during the week with the rest of the school.
Finally, we have concluded that day with a delicious menu and a concert prepared by the members of the Musical Project who have delighted us with some Chinese songs!
What a day full of new experiences and fun!
