This past April 2, the Bacc students of Gresol International-American School have had an experience qualified by themselves as ‘unforgettable!’.
One of the fundamental pillars of the GIAS Educational Project is the Community Service and we are constantly thinking, sharing and debating what possibilities we have to be able to offer some of our time for the benefit of the community. How can we, among all, make this world, our day to day, a little better with the contributions that each of us can do.
We had one of the possibilities close by and we started working with Matadepera’s Sagrada Família Residence, with Bea (a dedicated, professional person and supporter of the proposal from the very beginning) more than a month ago to be able to see what could be the link between school and residence.
Finally, on Tuesday 2, April, 17 students of 1st and 2nd of Baccalaureate went to the Residence …The feelings of all of them were being nervous, their expectations, their enthusiasm, but they were disconcerted …
They only needed to see the faces of the grandparents … less than five minutes were necessary so that they would begin to appear a whole series of magical connections between grandparents and young people. Grandparents were waiting for us! This was the message on the entrance board and our students quickly felt very well welcomed.
What a joy to see in just a couple of hours. ALL said what day would be the next!
Going back to school, the students made a void of feelings and emotions telling each one of them what their experience was: all of them had the same common denominator: ‘We were nervous at first because we did not know what we would find’ ; ‘In a way, it seemed that we would know them all the life’; ‘I only think what will be the next day we will see because we have to talk about many things’; ‘When I go back I have to take photos and the domino … because he told me that he will win me!’
What a great experience!
Now we just have to set the days and activities to do …
- Do you want to dance with me?
- Three + three … 33?
- When I was a child…
- Look grandma … that’s Instagram!
From Gresol International-American School we are very pleased to have started this initiative because we consider that it enriches us all. By the way, have you stopped to think that if there were no grandparents, there would be no parents and that, therefore, would we not be here?
